Morley Field Dog Park

Morely Field Dog Park is located at the west end of Morely Field Sports Complex off of Alabama St and Morely Field Drive. Parking is not an issue, as it has its own lot with ample parking spaces. This place is a fitness enthusiast’s dream as tennis courts and fitness equipment surround and are located inside the dog park.

There are two separate areas here, one large grassy field just to the north of the parking lot and one smaller grassy field to the right of the lot.

There are several trashcans, dog bag stations, and a human and dog water fountain for your convenience.

The park is not fenced in on any side, so if your dog enjoys chasing squirrels or does not listen to your voice command, then this may not be the park for you or you should invest in a dog GPS tracker. Also, be cautious when driving in and out of the parking lot as leashed dogs may be walking from one field to the other.

The Florida Canyon Nature trails and other hiking trails can be found adjacent to this park and dogs are welcome along the trails, however, they must be leashed at all times. The park is open 24 hours a day, so you can visit at your convenience. Make sure your dog is up to date on all vaccinations and holds a current and valid dog license.

Dog Park Amenities

While many appealing things are nearby, like the trails, some amenities are specifically for your dog at this park. As with any place you visit with your pet, you should always clean up after their waste, and there is a clean-up station here to help. You’ll also find water fountains for you and your canine friend and plenty of benches for relaxation while your dog runs around.

You can also find open areas here for you and your pooch to run around and exercise. However, please be cautious as this off-leash area is not completely fenced, so you will need to keep a close eye on your pet, maintain voice control and even consider a GPS tracker for peace of mind. One of the exercises in the Parcourse Fitness Circuit, the Body Curl (#9), is also found here, making this an appealing place for fitness fanatics who own a dog.

You can often find many different breeds running around, playing, and interacting together at Morley Field dog park. If you bring your pet here, be sure that they play well with others, as you won’t be able to put them in a separate, fenced area for others the same size. Both large and small dogs will play together in the same field here, but you do have a choice of two different fields in case there is an unruly dog in one of them.

Morley Field Entrance & Rules

This dog park has a dedicated parking lot right next to the entrance. This is ideal for those who want to make their visit quick or avoid a lot of walking. You’ll find the rules sign at the entrance, which you should look over to ensure that you don’t violate laws that can result in citations and fines.

Also note the small, green boundary sign here. These mark the beginning of the off-leash area, so you can let your dog run free as long as you are inside of those boundaries (this is important since the area isn’t fenced in).

The ends of these areas are marked by red signs that look very similar, so be sure to have your leash handy if you want to explore around.

While Balboa Park is open 24 hours a day, some parking areas are closed at night, so be sure to take note of these places if you will not visit during the day. The only time you won’t be able to bring your dog here is on Wednesday mornings because of regular maintenance, but you can still visit other off-leash areas in Balboa Park at those times or just take a leash walk on the trails.

Florida Canyon Hiking Trails & Other Nearby Attractions

One of the best things about Morley Field is that it is located in Florida Canyon in Balboa Park. This means that you get some amazing hillside views from the bottom of the canyon and there are many trails here for hiking or taking leashed walks with your canine friend. For the active and adventurous, you can even try parking at the lot that overlooks Morley Field and walk with your leashed dog down the trails to reach the park.

The hiking paths make for some amazing scenery. Still, you can also experience this by visiting Morley Field Dog Park because you are sitting in the bottom of the canyon surrounded by hillsides covered in vegetation and some buildings.

This area of Balboa Park is ideal for those that like exercise and athletics, as there are nearby ball fields, tennis courts, and much more.

Conclusions

The city of San Diego has a lot of dog parks. Morley Field Dog Park provides a lot of space for dogs to run around and play off-leash. The park also features spaces designated for small dogs, water fountains and bags for pet waste. Morley Field Dog Park is a fantastic spot to bring your pet if you’re looking for one in San Diego.
