Rancho Bernardo Off Leash Dog Park
Rancho Bernardo Dog Park is located off of the 15 Freeway and is nestled at the most southern end of the Rancho Bernardo Community Park. This recreation center and park sits on 40 acres and consists of an indoor gym, play areas, ball fields, basketball courts, a gazebo, tennis courts, and lawn bowling.
The Dog Park is approximately 2.5 acres and has three completely fenced in areas for all dogs to enjoy. Each designated dog area has a double-gated entryway that ensures no run-a-way dogs when someone new enters the area. Each park is separated by; small dogs under 30lbs, large dogs over 30lbs and also an all-dogs’ section.
Each park has gently rolling hillsides with plenty of grass and lots of large trees, which offer ample shade. All of the dog areas have a water fountain for the dogs and dog bag stations and trashcans for easy clean up.
There are several benches and plastic chairs for people to sit on. There are restrooms that are located within the Community Park and plenty of parking in the parking lots. Dogs need to be on leash when not in designated off-leash areas. The park is open from dawn until dusk.
Three Separate Fenced Areas for Off-Leash Usage
Dogs are allowed in most areas of Rancho Bernardo Community Park as long as they are on a leash, but there are also three fenced dog runs for off-leash usage. The paths outside of the off-leash area are commonly used for leash walking and nice benches are found here. To get into one of the off-leash enclosures, go through one of the double-gated entrances for the appropriate run.
There are separate areas for small and large dogs and a third area for all dogs. Simply look for the appropriate sign on the double-gated entrance. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this dog park, contact information for the director is available on a bulletin board notice.
Dog Park Amenities
There are a lot of features and amenities here specifically for dogs or to enhance the enjoyment of owners visiting with their pets. Tons of benches are available outside of the fenced runs and even in strategic, shaded locations inside of the enclosures so you can take a break whenever needed. There are also many waste clean-up stations and trash cans to make it easier for you to pick up after your animal.
Even though there are a lot of clean-up stations here, it can still be a good idea to bring your own waste bags since it is required by law that you pick up after your pet’s waste on any public property. You can also find a rustic dog water fountain and nearby water drinking bowls to help keep your pooch hydrated on hot California days or just after a lot of running around.
Smoking is also not allowed here, out of respect for the health of others and their pets. Free parking is available here, as there are tons of other amenities at the attached Community Park like an indoor gymnasium, meeting rooms, kids playground, senior center, tennis courts, basketball courts, ball fields, and more.
